Huge design flaw - maybe toxic? February 24, 2010 Jetmaker (USA) This mixer has a whisk attachment which is recommended for whipping cream. The problem is that the whisk scrapes heavily against the steel bowl. The result is that the whipped cream ends up riddled with little black specs. Upon emptying the bowl it can be seen that the black material is clumps of fine metal powder that has been scraped from the bottom of the bowl where the whisk contacts it. The black contamination was easily spotted in whipped cream. It may not be noticeable in other uses... Yikes!
I haven't tried whipping with the beaters yet but they have a plastic disk that contacts the bowl. So maybe I'll only end up with plastic residue in my food and not stainless steel!
Love It February 15, 2010 Olivia (B'dos.) I have been looking for the perfect mixer for my needs. I just began a cake and pastry class and I have been looking for power and effiency without the high price tag. This cuisinart mixer offers me that. I have the best of both world as a stand or a hand mixer.Mixes well.
Quite a bit lacking January 28, 2010 D. Sun (Vallejo, CA United States) In most cases you get what you pay for. I didn't want to pay $300-400 for a pretty Artisan stand mixer that would sit there and be used once a month or less. My main purpose for a mixer was to be able to cream butter and sugar, whip egg whites, and at times make some dough.
The dough hooks on this mixer are anemic and look like a child's toy. The bowl does rotate, but all it does is spread out the materials being mixed onto the sides of the bowl and it requires constant attention, scraping, and monitoring.
Whipping egg whites does work, but to have faster and more even results means you should remove the mixer and use it at as hand mixer.
The lowest speed setting is too fast, but the variation between the lowest and highest setting doesn't vary as much as you would expect, which is very annoying. It would be far better if low really was low and slow and the increments increased gradually.
Great as a hand mixer January 16, 2010 Diane M. Fray (New Hampshire) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you're looking for a super hand mixer, this is it. It was able to whip through peanut butter cookie dough and french bread dough (gluten free) like a wiz. Just don't try to use it as a stand mixer for anything heavier than whipping egg whites. When you do, all of the dough either crawls up the beaters or accumulates on the sides of the bowl...my educated guess is that it's because the beater is at the side, not the middle of the bowl. Also, the bowl doesn't always turn. I was ready to send it back and then tried as a hand mixer and found that the power and ability were there, as long as you moved the mixer around the bowl yourself. Haven't yet tried it with heavy bread or with the dough hooks. Decided to keep it, but if I want another stand mixer will probably buy the KitchenAid Professional.
Nice appliance January 14, 2010 M. C. Kroeff (Carmel, IN USA) This a very versatile appliance. The motor separates from the stand to become a hand mixer. The stand comes apart to store easily. I would recommend it.
